The Hotel Die Port van Cleve opened in 1870; its name refers to the previous building on the same spot, dating from 1592 in which Heineken brewed his first beer. The original interior, with its oak frame and blue Delft tiles is still intact. Dam Square and the Royal Palace are just ten meters away. The hotel has 120 rooms, all of which have modem Internet connections, direct-dial phones and television with in house movie system. Room have floral bedspreads and dark carpets; business suites have more contemporary decor with pale woods and sleeker lines.
In the hotel's brasserie De Poort, which seats 130, Dutch and international cuisine is served and its famous sizzling steaks. The hotel bar, De Blauwe Parade, is decorated in typically Dutch style with a Delft tile fresco. The peaceful, modern bar, De Hooiberg, ideal for watching the world go by. Other nearby sights to see include the Anne Frank House (400 meters away), the canals (200 meters away) and the Van Gogh Museum (1.5 kilometers away).
